PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
