Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
